BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles: Knit

About me

Luyao Lin is a Sustainable Knitwear Design graduate from London College of Fashion, University of Arts London, England. During her studies, Luyao has developed a strong focus on slowness in relation to sustainable fashion. Her work also explores soft sensitivity through a combination of classic European and Oriental heritages. Through these concepts, Luyao’s designs embody a romantic & feminine atmosphere. Luyao’s interest in textiles has been present since childhood, as she grew up watching her mum creating hand crafted and crocheted pieces for friends and family members. She was taught to hand knit at the age of 10 and has since continued to develop her craft skills, spending many hours enjoying, and appreciating the processes of these techniques. The time-consuming element of these hand rendered crafts has given Luyao a deep appreciation for the love and care that goes into these hand-crafted luxuries. Moving beyond the physicality of the knitted pieces, she holds an admiration for the thoughtfulness embedded in the slowness of making these items by hand. Luyao is now focused on continuing this devotion to slow fashion in future collections. Growing up in the Chinese countryside, Luyao enjoyed fresh air and clean water, amazed by and appreciative of the generous creations that nature has to offer. This has become a constant source of inspiration for the designer as Luyao is always seeking balance and connection between the natural world and human beings. Through the soft touch of Luyao’s textile designs, she hopes to evoke people's deeper thoughts and emotions and encourages the wearer to re-evaluate their connection with nature after the epidemic.
