Chen is a London based product designer, freshly graduated and moving on to do a product design master course at the Royal College of Art. Originally from China, she moved to the UK to attend boarding school. She is interested in offering simple and convenient solutions to everyday problems. Her designs are straightforward, convenient and inclusive. She believes in the importance of hands-on research and her design process often begins with interviews or informal conversations. Early on Chen was attracted to the playful and allusive designs of Japanese designer Oki Sato. She now studies Japanese and hopes to spend some time working in Japan. Having spent her formative years in two different countries inspired Chen to value cultural diversity, both in her personal life and in her design practice. She is looking forward to developing an interdisciplinary approach to design in her master course. She is excited about incorporating knowledge and methodology from computer science, biology and material technology in her own practice. Her objective is to use these skills to address complex societal problems through her designs. Chen is open to any internships beginning this September.
