Over the past couple of years I have become fascinated in the regeneration of council estates throughout London. I believe its hugely important to not only involve residents in the process but to get them to take regeneration into their own hands. From working in the council engagement team at Joyce and Snells estate I believe that engagement is essential in getting residents involved in the planning process. As a spatial practitioner in the future, I see myself as a design facilitator for estates that are facing large scale developments. I wish to offer up the skills that I have learnt throughout my studies in order to help communities to develop their own Peoples’ Plan. From this we can hope to see change occurring from a grass roots community level rather than from the top.Throughout my studies I joined a collective called Quiet Agency where we tested out workshops in bid to voice the unheard. We celebrate a collection of quiet activities, devised to be thought provoking and designed as a way to bring agency to those who are not being heard. Our work is a direct response to the overriding forms of community engagement that exist today, that are often tokenistic and exclusionary.
