Italian-born Julia Silvester is a London-based fine artist.
Following her BA Fashion Illustration studies at London College of Fashion, she recently graduated with distinction from MFA Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Arts. Silvester's painting practice explores intimate conversations between birds, figures and interior spaces. In a disrupted form of realism, layers of oil paint create a bruised palette of colours that depict a disquieting defamiliarisation of interiors. Psychically charged encounters between figures and birds, evoke themes of domesticity and isolation, presented with the desire to unsettle. Silvester also works with photography to produce authentic manipulations of domestic environments and to transform abstract concepts into physical realities.
