The tapestry of life is woven with many threads and is the fusion of heredity, intention and chance. As a child I travelled extensively and lived in many places around the world. I have always been drawn to people, their lives, loves, countries and homes; what made us who we have become today and our life’s journey have all been the subject of many of my paintings. I now make quilt portraits. Quilts are associated with comfort and protection. Many early memories will have originated in the cocooned security we found in our homes, often snuggled under similar coverings. My quilts grow like a jigsaw, sculpted using iconography, colour and pattern to develop a semiotic representation of life. Piece by piece, weaving shapes, colour and texture these layers build the narrative as a symbolic thread of connections that intersect and overlay, forming the essence of our lives as human beings.
