THE CONCEPT OF “A SEDUCTIVE STILL LIFE” IN THIS PROJECT AIMS TO REVERSE THE IDEA OF THE TRADITIONAL FLORAL PAINTING FEMINISING THE HOME TOWARDS A DISCOURSE ABOUT FEMALE SEDUCTIVE POWER THROUGH SCULPTURAL LEATHER-HAND CRAFTED PIECES. ORCHIDEAL REFERENCES ACT BOTH AS A METAPHOR OF FEMALE SEDUCTIVINESS AND REFERS TO THE GENERA AS WELL. THE SEXUAL STRATEGY AND MORPHOLOGY OF PHALAENOPSIS, CATTLEYA AND CYMBIDIUM SPECIES RESULTED AN EFFECTIVE VEHICLE TO EMBODY EMPOWERING POLITICIZED FEMININITY. IT DICTATED DESIGN DECISIONS TO BUILD A “SENSORIAL” JOURNEY ACROSS THE COLLECTION. MY GOAL IS TO SEDUCE THE EYE AND CREATE A MAGNETIC CONNECTION BETWEEN THE OBJECT AND THE AUDIENCE, AT THE SAME TIME OF EXPLORING THE FASHION ACCESSORY WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE HOME AND THE BODY. SO, How can artefacts reflect a contemporary notion of politicized femininity through orchids, crafts and surface design? This research question led the whole theoretical and practice-based exploration of the project.
