This project was created to support my dissertation titled "From Jesus to Yeezus". The essay seeks to explore the parallels between conventional worship and fanatical behaviours surrounding celebrity worship, bringing the definition of religion into question. I found Kanye West to be an excellent case study as, despite his faith in Christianity, his egotistic persona and god complex paints a faschinating picture of the modern person's struggle between the duality of being submissive to power and feeling empowered. I chose to create a Christian-inspired altar for Kanye West, as his moniker of Yeezus (clearly derived from Jesus), along with his many references to his Christian faith, frames the elements of my argument into a cohesive piece of design. In congruence with the time-honoured vocabulary of Christian art, the artwork is filled with symbolism and iconography which references from the life of Yeezus.
