Duplicitous Lives for AW20 byOlivia Rubens explores what it means to be a woman, and how we construct our- selves bit by bit to become who we are or who we think we are. It questions the reality of our “true” selves, sameness, and our perception of others, and humorously points towards the metaphorical and literal masks we wear to conceal our identities on a daily basis. I referenced photography by Cindy Sherman, Juno Calypso, Nadia Lee Cohen, Laurie Simmons, and Martin Parr to name a few, and created my own Cindy Sherman style photoshoot. Through sustainable knitwear design and social justice initiatives, Olivia Rubens stands for overcoming and embracing our differences, and battling the injustices of bullying and prejudice.
