During the period of quarantine of COVID-19, many couples' living together has been put to the test. One cause of these phenomenon is that our living space nowadays lack of loving atmosphere. Ordinary apartments and hotels can’t create an atmosphere of love, ignoring the compatibility of people's relationship status, age and interest, social style and so on. These hotels can`t create an atmosphere of love, of which the pattern is full of vulgar decoration. Unlimited replication, mechanical splicing, instinctively ignoring spatial receptivity, hotel seems indifference from the architectural aspect. Specifically, I want to redesign an existing hotel, the lovers can feel the taste of love in this space as well as live a safety life.

Love Utopia

This project was aimed to extend the definition of ‘Love Hotel’ from the public residential building to the urban living complex, and then interpreted it in an architectural language. One of the innovation was to subvert the monotonous hotel style. The whole building space consists of three parts:1. Green Space:which made it look like being built in a natural park. It could provide residents with fresh air and fascinating scenery. 2. Private Space: Room was the smallest unit in people’s daily life.I designed each room as a capsule, which was self-sufficient and well-equipped. 3. Social Space:The building was also full of public areas, including the hanging gardens, cafe, restaurants, and stores, which could increase interaction and exchange between couples.

Background & Initial Idea

During the quarantine, the opportunity for two single men and women to meet each other remains very few and risky. On the other hand, lack of romantic public space in normal hotels leads to a problem that lovers have little place to date with each other. Based on these social issues, I made a sketch of my original idea:A huge number of bubble like units in various functions and sizes are embedded into the residential building with beautiful natural scenery.

Architecture Structure Detail Diagram

The main structure is considered of 5 parts: Open-air garden, main frame, tracks, singling, bubble like units and route network. One of the innovation was to subvert the monotonous hotel style. The whole hotel was made up by these tiny units, distinguished from the existing hotel-style room-type distinction. Room was the smallest unit in people’s daily life, and the whole hotel was made up by these tiny units. In this hotel, people could achieve their fundamental demands. Day-to-day activities happened here every day. In the design, considering the privacy and publicity, I carefully arranged the ultimate layout. I applied parametric design to provide residents with trips and encounter which were carefully planned.
