My New Normal project, named No Violence, is related to police brutality in China. Through a series of digital narrative illustrations, I want to appeal to some Chinese police to stop enforcing the laws violently in some unnecessary situations. My artworks usually take the small things around as the starting point to reflect some social phenomena critically. They deal with themes such as the misuse of cultural symbols, China’s one-child policy, and stereotypes in the stated-own enterprises. But the art forms I use to express these themes are not limited to illustrations, but also include immersive space exhibitions, animation, and pop-up books. I tried a variety of mediums to express my theme. But right now, I pay more attention to digital media, which is related to my undergraduate study. I focused on exploring how to increase the relevance of the audience to the artwork. So, now I am trying to create a series of artworks based on the thinking of interaction design and user experience design, instead of traditional narrative illustration. So, for now, I’m going to use Processing and AR technologies to encourage my audience to participate in my artwork and become a part of my work.
