The theme of this work is ‘New Normal’, which consists of three cross-stitch works, each depicting representative different scenes of life under the COVID-19 epidemic. Why I choose to present them in the form of cross-stitch is that I think it can not only convey the thoughts and feelings I want to express in the content, but also subtly reflect the state of people staying at home in the form. In this project, I break the single expression form of traditional graphic illustration, increasing the richness of the picture with the texture produced by the cross-stitch, and combine with the traditional Chinese cross-stitch craft to create a 3D sense of contemporary plane.
The idea throughout the work is to evoke resonance through the use of familiar life scenes and bright colors. In terms of composition, I prefer perspective composition to express the sense of space. In order to present a better visual effect in the final work, I deliberately choose brighter colors to enhance the visual impact. At the same time, I also pay attention to the combination of light and dark colors to create more balanced and harmonious pictures. The goal of this work is to bring warmth and encouragement to people affected by COVID-19, building a bridge between traditional Chinese handcraft and plane to broaden its future forms of expression.
