The stocking design is a response to imperfections (stretch marks) acquired during the coronavirus epidemic. Using the principles of Kintsugi (Japanese ceramic repair), the cracks were repaired by expensive gold. I am attempting to bring beauty to imperfection and challenge notions that only the perfect is beautiful. I hope to break away from some cultural constructs of what is beautiful because they are unhelpful and limiting. Rather than see imperfection as something unbeautiful, as something to hide, I am embracing imperfection. I am embracing my stretch marks and celebrating my inherent beauty. So, this product is a way to express my thinking and to challenge conventional notions of beauty.
