This digital art work was inspired by a consequence of the pandemic – being forced to return to my hometown and my parents’ flat. The prolonged intimacy created a lot of distress. My parents like to interfere with my studies, my life, my feelings. Because they have clear notions of who they want me to be and this causes me deep distress. I kept this to myself. I adopted the bird as a representation of desire to leave the nest. I use pop art style, such as bold colours, repetitions, and pared-down shapes, to depict the desire to regain freedom. It isn't exactly what's on the surface, there's something else going on underneath, such as the tears in the birds’ eyes. It is hiding pain and sorrow behind a facade just like me.
