In the New Normal project, I used my camera to record the people I met in London during the pandemic. Under such circumstances, I can hardly see the true faces of the people I meet or talk to, because they all wear masks. Therefore, in this project, I have provided photos to prove their existence but their faces are not fully visible and are hidden behind masks. I want to examine their true identity. So I concentrated on their faces and used a kaleidoscope to perform reflection imaging. I put the photos I took in front of the kaleidoscope, and the reflected patterns constitute my work. In this project, I used a kaleidoscope as an eye to observe these strangers through multiple perspectives. The kaleidoscope reflects the group of ‘incomplete’ strangers that I saw, and my fragmentary memories of them are refracted inside the kaleidoscope, forming fragmented images.
