Seedners - How might we engage left-behind children into positive behavior and mind through participatory art therapy activities in rural China?

#finalyear #activity #art #children #health #mental #participatory #therapy

The project focuses on the mental health of left-behind children in rural China. For the sake of survival, many parents in rural areas go to big cities to do work. Hence, their kids are left behind or sent to their relatives to take care of. Rural parents who have gone to the cities for a long time are often far away from their home. They lack opportunities to stay with their kids, resulting in less communication and failing to provide their kids with timely help on mentality and living life. The project followed the Double Diamond methodology created by the Design Council over nine months. The approach follows four stages and utilizes divergent and convergent thinking in order to Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver on a final service concept. The project service - Seedners centers on participatory art therapy, and provides a full range of help to the mental health of left-behind children in rural China through four touchpoints including official service accounts, participatory art therapy activity instruction manuals, regular urban and rural school resource sharing workshops and online communication groups.

Left-behind children can be vulnerable to harsh, judgmental environments where they don’t feel they can be themselves. They may suppress their real character to avoid censure from their peers, and it’s for this reason that it’s essential for LBC to identify their core values and identify who they think they are.
