Knife Man

For this project, we had to design a character in the book about the surgeon John Hunter. I chose to design for John Hunter. While reading the book I got inspired by 18th-century leather aprons so I used that as my starting inspiration. That then influenced my design to lead more to a steampunk aesthetic, that really complemented the 18th-century silhouette. I collaborated with a fellow hair and makeup student and we both liked the steampunk vibe as a jumping-off point. I handpainted the stripes onto the coat and then added sprocket and chains onto the buttons and pockets to support that theme. I also made a leather 18th century inspired patchwork apron, that I dirtied up and made it look like he has used it his whole career.
