Jamaican Dancehall Mood Board
What is Dancehall? "Dancehall music is a genre of urban folk music which came out of Jamaica in the mid to late 1970s and is generally considered to be the direct predecessor of rap. Dancehall music is, in its most basic form, a deejay toasting (or rapping) over a riddim. Dancehall is also known as bashment, a term which can refer to either the music itself or a large party where dancehall music is played." (https://www.thoughtco.com/dancehall-music-3552844)
World Tribes Mood board
The initial ideas for this Final Major Project, began with looking at these inspirational images, taken from a book called "Before they pass away" by Jimmy Nelson. "Abridged version of the global bestseller. This historic volume showcases tribal cultures around the world. With globalization, these societies are to be prized for their distinctive lifestyles, art and traditions. They live in close harmony with nature, now a rarity in our modern era. Jimmy Nelson not only presents us with stunning images of customs and artifacts, but also offers insightful portraits of people who are the guardians of a culture that they - and we - hope will be passed on to future generations in all its glory".
