The name of my work is ‘Struggle’. As an undergraduate student majored in fashion design, I paid great attention to the environmental problems caused by overproduction in the fashion industry. Learned from the news, fashion industry has polluted the environment significantly, which is detrimental to rivers and seas, polluting the limited water sources. In addition, cotton, as the most common raw material for clothing, which only occupied 2.4% of the arable land, consumes 3% fresh water of the world. Therefore, clothing-related materials became my initial source of inspiration. To convey my deep concerning over the pollution and waste of clothing production, I made this piece of decorative frame. The connotative combination of these materials is the biggest highlight of my work. As it is shown in the picture, I used discarded clothing material, elastic bands, and cotton as the raw material and decoration. In fact, each of them has a symbolic meaning. For instance, the cotton in the center was dragged by the bands, which symbolizes the natural environment that is polluted. The elastic band symbolizes the pollution caused by overproduction and over-consumption, while the wooden frame symbolizes a sense of restriction.
