Those Boring Times, Which Are Melted Away consists of a real time video captured by CCTV cameras, and an image on 3m x 3m canvas. The 1 hour video records a participant waiting in a restricted space for a block of ice to melt. The second part is the canvas. As the ice melts, the ink in the ices forms patterns on the canvas. The resulting image is a record, like a long exposure photograph, of the boredom of the time in the space. The work offers a glimpse into the mental world of the participant. The work raises questions of what is not boring and whether it is possible for something be both cool and boring. It explores the creative potential of times of boredom.
