Collaboration: Grayson’s Graduation Robe will express the creative genius that is UAL by combining his flamboyant joyous positivity with a collaboration of illustrations from students on the MA Illustration course at Camberwell and can be extended across the university. Seven students have so far contributed quick sketches for the robe design. Once the garment is completed, drawings from further contributors will be inserted into hundreds of pockets across the robe. The hat, footwear and wings will also carry illustrations. The fabric containing the pictures will be translucent, the skirt and wings may have some reference to insects or fairies, but the substantial footwear grounds the overall effect, adding full pomp and circumstance to the ceremony. Illustrations could potentially be changed and developed so that the garment could be reused for future graduation ceremonies with ever developing student cohort contributions.
