The Rubin Butterfly Robe is inspired by the life cycle of butterflies. The skirt has the shape of a cocoon while the sleeves and pearl embroideries are inspired by the beauty of the hatched butterfly.
The inspiration is a metaphor for the process of studying at UAL. The students are leaving their ”cocoons” and develop their unique creative personalities. They are fully developed ”butterflies” after graduating and can finally spread their wings.
