It is weird, when you think about it: that with the growth of fashion, we have moved from a subsistent, sustainable fashion to Fast fashion, the type that is characterised by greed and exploitation. Man has always had an influence on nature, but with the age of fast fashion, that impact has been doubled. A better alternative to recycling maybe upcycling, it provides the opportunity of reprocessing garments by turning it into something new. So that we can maintain economic growth without being destructive to the environment. My trip to Africa brought me face to face with a specie of bees that hive in houses. They build their hives on the corners of a room or even abandoned objects. Usually built in moods, the hives come in different shapes featuring different compartments. The pieces are upcycled from T-shirt necks mostly children’s. The necks combine to create a unique blend of colour shades, textures and grains giving each garment within the collection its peculiarity. Some of the garments have the details of their extrusion and some may bear the name of the brand that made the T-shirt.
