Reflecting on the fading heritage of bamboo craftsmanship in China, that has been over-run by the current industrial nature of manufacture, Keping aims to create a balance of both indigenous and industrial materials in her collection of contemporary accessories. She fabricates her work with a sound understanding of the material qualities in both bamboo and thermo shrinking plastic to create swirling abstract wearable artefacts. Visually they are suggestive of the hectic and haphazard industrial rhythm of life in China. The multiple works in Keping’s graduating collection can be stacked when worn on the body to accumulate and manifest this hectic and chaotic impression.
