Day Street is a drama, based on real events, that explores the struggle of families living on Council Estates in Hull in 1982. It tells the story of Sammy an 11 year old girl who is trying to navigate her family’s struggles, while wanting to be like other children her age. Sammy lives with her parents and three siblings, she often finds herself responsible for her youngest sister: Jess and has to help with family chores. Her dad, a fisherman is always at sea, the peace and ‘normality’ of family life becomes unsettled upon his sudden return due to his drinking and gambling problems. Sammy has to learn to accept her life as she has no power to change her family’s situation and instead she begins to support them rather than rebelling. Day Street is currently on a film festival circuit for a year. Trailer coming soon.
