En route explores the unplanned, unexpected and accidental encounters of material behaviour. The emphasis is on the process, such as melting, printing, stretching and creasing where it gave up the precisely measured or mathematically laid out forms of traditional knitting. Instead, it opens up to new areas and possibilities and is no longer limited by regulated rules or techniques. This knitwear collection consists a total of 6 garments, which aims to represent and reflect the key elements of my aesthetic into fashion and textiles design.

Creased Chaos

En route contains three sections, creased chaos, liquified and coated knits. Creased chaos investigates into the accidental encounters and occasional beauty of the shape and form of materials. It showed how treatments and processes like creasing, printing and heat pressing could do to change the quality and appearance of knitted fabrics. The silhouette of garments were made by draping experiments to further enhance the material behaviours and possibilities.

Vacuumed

Vacuumed look was a part of coated knits. Building up from previous experimentations into sublimation printing with heat press, here I’ve continued to explore the relationship of materials and the intriguing reaction when yarns and materials meets heat. The manipulation of textiles is the highlight throughout the project and here I’m focusing on coating, layering and combining materials to form interesting outcomes.

Melted Invisibles

Melted invisibles was also a part of coated knits section. Building up from previous experimentations into sublimation printing with heat press, here I’ve continued to explore the relationship of materials and the intriguing reaction when yarns and materials meets heat. The manipulation of textiles is the highlight throughout the project and here I’m focusing on coating, layering and combining materials to form interesting outcomes and garments

Liquified

Fluidity, movement and the behaviour of materials is the inspiration for this series of textiles development incorporating weaving with plastic strings. Because it is knitted with elastic yarns underneath, the form of the string changes when it is stretched and pulled, causing internal but occasional beauty.

Draping Wire

Draping wire was a part of creased chaos. This section explores the accidental chaos and occasional beauty of the shape and form of materials and yarns. This look was made solely for the purpose to investigate into material behaviours, where I have decided to let the human body and its movements to decide and define the shape, design and silhouette for the garment instead of pre-design and produce.
