My project, Real-time Climate Soundscapes, is a computer software that plays different soundscapes based on the real-time air quality index, which indicates current or forecasted air pollution levels. Unhealthy air quality triggers a noisy urban soundscape, while good air quality plays a peaceful natural soundscape. This project uses sound to remind people of air quality, encouraging awareness of air pollution. Inspired by James McCarthy's Aeolian Harps, a sound installation in New Zealand that produces different sounds based on weather conditions, I realized that while I cannot solve the climate crisis with sound, I can use it as a medium to draw attention to it, much like McCarthy does with weather.
