This was one of two final projects of the year. The brief was to create a publication under the theme 'structure and the city' – combining primary and secondary research into a finessed piece of editorial design. The theme could be interpreted as literally or as broadly as we wished. What you see here is Lexicon: a book on the urban vocabulary of London's city streets. Urban design has developed a subtle but distinct visual language over the decades, and here I note a few examples. These 'secret agents' working our streets impact our behaviour, the way we use and interact with public space and reflect the attitude of our society. Secret, as ordinarily their implementation goes unnoticed.
