After using my dissertation to explore the unsustainable structure of the global fashion industry, I aimed to create a collection that was locally sourced. Networking within the perimeter of London, I collected materials through 3 channels of waste, by-product and traded yarn. The collection of constructed pieces is informed by my visual research, also found within London. I explored local sports centres and their equipment to inform the textiles projected for sportswear shoes and accessories. This equipment was deconstructed and rebuilt as I worked within the limitations of my physical space and pushed the longevity of materials. The project website displays the journey of possibilities within local sourcing. Its purpose is to inspire designers, buyers and forecasters to adopt the model as a tool. As well as to reconsider sustainability as a trend, as the fashion industry navigates ‘new’.
