My final product is a set of wearable pieces woven from the packaging waste materials. My inspiration came from my reflection on the difficulties of resource recovery caused by over-packaging after the development of the economy and e-commerce. All the materials I used were various types of packaging waste collected during my year in London, including Paper bags, plastic bags ,ties, foam, etc.
packaging waste is one of the main factors causing environmental pollution in today's world. As the planet is gradually contaminated with packaging waste, all life on our planet has been negatively affected. In addition, people who lack the power to recycle garbage will throw it anywhere, which poses a huge potential risk to the environment. Therefore, the artistic secondary creation of these packaging materials is a reflection of sustainable development.
During this period, the outbreak of the epidemic made me think about what is most precious and most important to people. This huge challenge is telling us to allocate resources more carefully, to establish a perfect product recycling system, and to the greatest extent. To reduce chemical pollution. These woven fabrics could recycle a part of the packaging waste that is difficult to sort, and also combine the ancient weaving skills with the unique color culture of the Pacific. In the future, they will have a very flexible and powerful prospect in the fabric and fashion fields. Regarding the presentation method, like Nick Cave, his works are both installations, art work and unique clothing. firstly, my fabrics can be exhibited as wall hangings and installations. The wearability feature can shorten the distance from the audience, guide people to reflect on the environmental problems caused by packaging, Or It can enter the market as an innovative fabric, because weaving makes the material more Tough and durable.
