This project examines the web of interactions between humans and the natural world through the unusual example of the horseshoe crab. Its blue blood is used by the biomedical industry to check medicines, vaccines and surgical supplies for bacterial contamination, something that likely benefits most people alive today. Yet the crab is under threat from overharvesting and habitat loss. Employing imagery of blood vessels, degrading taps and the mythical figure Talos, the key themes of extraction and interconnection have been explored.
