An investigation into the native trees of the British isles. This has been a personal exploration of trees and the wood within them. It often strikes me how in contemporary woodworking the same woods tend to get used over and over. Drawing on the rich and extensive traditional uses of timber carried out in woodland crafts throughout the centuries. I have been collecting through the help of coppice groups and found cut timbers many of the native timbers. In the workshop I have been experimenting with these timbers, utilising a range of different processes from carving, turning, stripping off bark, staining, creating solutions from their tannins along with many others. This project is about showcasing the extensive variety of local materials that tend to get overlooked.
