During the completion of my final year studying FDT: Fashion Design Technology Womenswear, I knew that I wanted my final collection to showcase my cultural roots. I was intrigued by the cultural experience which West-Indian immigrants experienced during the Wind-Rush in particular. How they enabled themselves to adapt to a new reality to while still remaining true to their own roots and culture. This was achieved in many ways , however personally drawn to the representation of sound system culture as a movement, which perpetuated inclusiveness within what was once a racially divided society. Music is an inclusive language, I’d like to think fashion should also be inclusive. My design process adapts to this value, and I’m a firm believer for the representation of diversity.
