Thinking Reed

The intention of Pascal wrote “man is a thinking reed” is analyzing the importance of thoughts for a man: “Man is a reed, the weakest of nature, but he is a thinking reed. It is not necessary that the entire universe arm itself to crush: a vapor, a drop of water suffices to kill him. But if the universe were to crush him, man would still be nobler than what kills him, because he knows that he dies and the advantage that the universe has over him, the universe does knows nothing”.Reed is a sort of plant that sways in the wind which as the same as how public opinion can be led to presupposed channel by surrounding news, and this was my own understanding when I saw the “thinking reed” at the first time. Although it was a totally misunderstood, the gap between the writer’s intention and my own misunderstood made me feel interesting.During the time of making works,I gradually realize that the pascal’s original intention and my misunderstood is not totally run in the different direction. The real independent thinking is still the most helpful element to avoid being blind in the trivial information and public emotion. But how can a person be thinking in an independent way? I don’t know.
