Laoshan Taoist is selected from the collection of classical Chinese short strange stories by Pu Songling, a novelist from the Qing Dynasty in China. The story is about a young man who was idle went to Laoshan and met a immortal there because of the infatuation of magic skills. The immortal asked him to cut wood every day to test his determination, but he could not afford to suffer. Even the immortal usage hints at him, he still got no talent.
