BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting
My painting is fundamentally concerned with landscape and how it connects with history, both my own personal history and the history of the wider national community. Landscape painting has been a major part of my life since childhood, my mother was a painter and architect and some of my earliest memories are of playing in fields in the UK and in France while she worked on a landscape nearby. Later when I started painting, I quickly developed an interest in landscape painting which has continued ever since. History has become an interest over time, initially it was fostered by talking to my Grandparents about their experiences during World War 2, subsequently I met veterans of that war in the adult education art classes I attended in the 1980's. More than anything else these often chaotic adult education classes formed me as a painter and exposed me to widely differing philosophies of art and living that I remain grateful for.
