UAL Graduate Showcase: Technical Improvements

We are working hard to fix the problems some of you are having with your UAL Graduate Showcase upload in Portfolio.

Preview issues

There is a problem with the preview function, which means you can’t see your work. We are working hard to fix this.

One way you can fix this issue now is to remove some of your tags. There is a character limit on tags, so please just list your top 3 tags.

After we fix this problem, you will be able to go back in and add more tags.

If removing tags doesn’t work, please check that these fields don’t contain more than 250 characters:

  • Course
  • Email Address
  • Website
  • Instagram link
  • LinkedIn link
  • Facebook link
  • Tags
  • Cover photo (filename)
  • Profile picture (filename)

What we’ve fixed

General

To upload your work, please use Google Chrome on a laptop or desktop computer, wherever possible. If you use a different browser, you may encounter upload difficulties.

Pages with missing content will show that there is missing content. If you are unsure, try to fill all the slots for your work with content, to ensure the right preview functionality.

Your content will only refresh on the preview after clicking the ‘Preview’ button.

Your Details

Social media account links don’t work

The Connect buttons do not work for Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts.

Instead, please paste in the URL (web address) of your social media account on the My Details page.

Text fields don’t save when switching tabs

Wording added to some text fields was not saved when switching between tabs on the Portfolio screen.

Please use the ‘Continue’ button when moving between pages to be notified when there are required fields missing.

‘Add to slot’ button doesn’t save content

This problem has been fixed.

Media uploaded to a slot doesn’t display when clicked

This problem has been fixed.

‘For Sale’ checkbox doesn’t save (MacOS, Firefox and Safari)

This problem has been fixed.

The sensitive content flag doesn’t save (MacOS, Firefox and Safari)

This problem has been fixed.

Preview

Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer do not work for most of the preview. Please use Google Chrome on a laptop or desktop computer, wherever possible.

Zoom function zooms incorrectly

This problem has been fixed.

If an image was uploaded it would be ‘zoomed in’ by default, but it will now fit the area on the page. Background images will always cover the entire screen. Using a pattern or an image that does not require a specific aspect ratio may help with background images.

Page doesn’t load when all media slots are empty

This problem has been fixed.

When a slot is left empty, this will show a missing content message.

Fields don’t display on preview when the preview button is clicked

A slight delay has been added to allow the field content to be saved and then displayed in preview.

PDFs with special characters don’t always load on preview

This problem has been fixed.

PDFs don’t automatically fit the screen

This now works on all browsers, except MacOS Firefox.

The bio on the preview page doesn’t display hyperlinked content

This problem has been fixed.

Soundcloud embedded content displays a large empty space below

This problem has been fixed.

Overlay on embedded 3D and video impairs usability

This has been removed.

In Windows, fonts aren’t correctly displaying

This problem has been fixed.

Descriptions on Preview

Descriptions have been improved to show the student name as intended.

Improvements have been made to scrolling descriptions.

Some styling updates have been added to improve the legibility of URLs.
