I am passionately driven to explore what defines a 'beautiful image'. My work embraces the concept of imperfect beauty inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which values acceptance of the impermanent and imperfect. While I appreciate Western interpretations of beauty in art, my focus lies in the beauty found in decay, influenced by practices such as Chinese Zen Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. These philosophical beliefs allow me to establish tranquility within myself and serve as a foundation for my work — every mark I make represents a deep instinctual feeling.By integrating historical and contemporary portrayals of beauty, I am able to craft a narrative that explores beauty in all its forms - physical, spiritual, and emotional. The wide spectrum of colours and patterns in these artworks inspires me to incorporate elements from different time periods and settings, while still maintaining a contemporary context through open narratives of cultural exchange. This allows for an unrestricted examination of subjects, inviting audience exploration of historical contexts and symbolic meanings. Moreover, the smaller format of my works – often featuring depictions of human beauty, flora, and fauna – encourages a more intimate connection to art through close engagement.An extension of my art practice is the frequent documentation of my experiences, memories, and emotional responses to the subject matter through video footage. This approach maintains the fluid process of creation, establishing a cohesive foundation for both my artistic and academic endeavours.
