Charlotte Young is a digital artist who explores the functioning and effects of the digital interface. Influenced by the rise of Technopaganism and the evolving connection between queer culture and the digital realm, her work delves into the perennial human desire to attain altered states of consciousness. This age-old phenomenon, once expressed through spiritual practices and psychedelics, is transforming into a contemporary longing to be fully immersed in the digital sphere. The essence of her practice lies in navigating a liminal paradox, wherein individuals find themselves caught between the natural and the virtual, exploring the profound implications of this dual existence. Using full-stack programming (JavaScript, HTML, CSS), along with 3D modeling, film, and image-making, her practice reimagines the function of digital space within the complexities of Web 2.0. Within a gallery, her digital work is developed into print and moving image, in addition to live hosted websites that challenge the notion of what a website can be.
