This is a project about the climate crisis. In today's industrialised world, the environment we live on is being destroyed. Global warming has become a serious problem, and industrial carbon emissions and the use of refrigerants have depleted the ozone layer. If the hole in the ozone layer continues to grow, it will seriously affect the survival of human beings. Through this project, I want to make people aware of the harm to human beings caused by the depletion of ozone layer.
I found that there are two main causes of global warming, greenhouse gases emitted by industry and the depletion of the ozone layer. Industrial emissions, an inevitable problem since the Industrial revolution, have gradually improved. But the problem with ozone depletion is that the fluorine and chlorine, a chemical used by humans, destroy the ozone layer in the atmosphere.
During my research on the depletion of the ozone layer, a diagram of the layer holes in the ozone layer above Antarctica reminds me of the picture of a story I read when I was a child -- the story illustration of Nu Wa mending the sky. This gave me the inspiration to draw the original prototype. The modern city is used to represent our living environment, and passers-by equipped with ultraviolet protection equipment on the road in summer are used as the characters in my illustrations.
But after I finished the painting, I realised there was always something missing. So I went out to do some preliminary research, and I found inspiration in a photo of a tree trunk. The back side of the tree is dominated by green flowers and trees, while the other side is dominated by gray urban main road.
So I brought this contrast to my work, using this tree as a boundary between two very different environments.
