I believe that many people still feel that Climate Crisis does not impact their daily life and I wanted to create an artwork that would focus everyone’s attention on the link between Climate Crisis and important social issues. My research revealed an indirect link between potential future viral risks and climate change. Some scientists believe there may be dangerous ancient viruses frozen in polar ice caps that could be released as the ice recedes. As virus risk is a topical issue of concern because of the COVID pandemic, I decided to explore this in my project. I have always been interested in exploring the possibilities of documentary photos in different situations to express different emotions. In this project, I have used documentary photos frozen in ice to symbolise our collective pre-pandemic memories. As the ice melts the photos are gradually exposed and destroyed. My artwork is a metaphor for the possible future suffering and destruction of the lives of ordinary people that could be caused by the release of ancient virus strains on the modern world.
