Experimental Process "Disrupted Nature"

This project consists of two main stages, Disrupted Nature and Pick n Mix. Disrupted Nature explores nature in its most natural form. Exploring movement within a live setting, capturing natures textiles, patterns and colours on different scales and observing surroundings. Pick n Mix explores the Hew Locke exhibition; "The Procession", developing an in depth extensive research collection of an object chosen. The chosen object I focused on was 'mask'. Not only analysing the front of the mask but also exploring what lays beneath the mask? What souls lay under the mask and what happens after it is removed? After life, angel of death…? I quite liked the contrast between the lightness and majestic feel of the florals and the more rigid, darker undertone of the exhibition. With a mixture of strong embroidery techniques; tambour embroidery, hand embroidery, appliqué, bead work and fabric painting, i was able to really refine the storyline to create that specific mood. Key colours of soft blues, warm golds, transparent greens and lavish purples presented add to the mood of the embroidery and also tells the story of the mask and nature mixed together.
