Lomas de la Primavera's Recycling Hub: Reimagining Waste, Creating Value, Transforming Lives Only 9% of plastic has been recycled globally; the rest remains on our planet. Reusing existing materials is vital, instead of relying on new resources. Yet, 2 billion people lack waste collection services, coexisting with waste in homes and streets. The Recycling Hub is a community project designed for Lomas de la Primavera, situated in one of Mexico's most economically disadvantaged districts. A system that empowers the community to give a value to their waste by transforming it into new products to be used in their houses and sold to other neighbourhoods, creating a source for livelihoods. People will separate waste at home and exchange it for food at the Recycling Hub. Skilled community members will be trained to follow the recycling process, from sorting and shredding plastic to designing and moulding products. The Hub will be implemented in the Community Development Centre collaborating with Fundación Zapopan and Precious Plastic.
