Bad Luck Dog

Pencil on paper Individual size including white border (29.7x 42 cm) Total size including Frame (59.4x 84.1 cm) These four drawings of the dogs originated as a memorial to my dog that passed away, as I experimented with the image and the inversion of the colour, led me to the cultural omen of black dogs being seen as bad luck in Asia. The contrast of these drawings between the figure and then the background is the dissociation of the identity to the detachment from the superstition. The inversion of the image from right way up to upside down, plays with our notion of whether the dog is alive or not.
