"Breaking the Gaze" is a bold exploration of shifting the societal gaze away from narrow gender norms towards inclusive expressions of individuality and beauty. For too long, the gaze has been limited and focused on one gender, perpetuating inequality and objectification. Instead, this project advocates for an inclusive concept of the gaze, empowering individuals to express themselves authentically without conforming to restrictive gender roles. Through a diverse range of models, the images in this collection challenge traditional notions of beauty and provoke thought on gender norms and binaries. Drawing from past errors in media representation, the project deconstructs outdated narratives of what is deemed attractive, aiming to redefine the concept of 'sexy' in 2024. As a queer man, the artist behind this project recognizes the inherent bias in his own gaze and seeks to transcend it by embracing the perspectives of marginalized voices. By celebrating the beauty of individuals across the gender spectrum, the project invites viewers to question their preconceived notions of beauty and identity, fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. Through this lens, "Breaking the Gaze" serves not as a weapon of objectification, but as a tool for self-assertion, expression, and societal reconstruction, ultimately challenging viewers to reconsider their understanding of beauty and gender in the modern world.
