Cultural identity is at the forefront of her creative practice. Within this project ‘Cultureel Imtizaj’, investigates a broad range of cultural references, embracing both her Pakistani and Dutch heritages. Inspired by her South Asian and Western background; Colour and pattern form the visual cornerstones of this project; vividly expressed through the personal representation of two contrasting cultures.
Drawing Inspiration from her South Asian and Western background, Colour and pattern create an Immediate distinction between these two cultures as seen within traditional design references within each location. Through her meticulous craftmanship, Soha’s work interrogates the construction of these cultural identities, re-establishing a way in which embroidery can relate to the wearer and their heritage in personal ways.
Through her practice, Soha explores embroidery through storytelling and communicating
significant aspects of her dual Heritage.
