#ClimateCrisis2024 group1-ZiyiGao-fragmented scenery #nichumphries #the typhoons

My artwork represents the destruction which brought to our lives by the increasing frequency of typhoons caused by climate change. This artwork is called Fragmented scenery. I mainly used collage to show the destructive power of typhoons. I combined collaging techniques with irregularly wooden boards, and then use a carving knife and an electric saw to create the cracking, tearing and peeling effects. I decided to suspend the artwork and use collage in an attempt to “restore” the post-typhoon fragmented landscape.

The artworks of artist Daniel Arsham and Sarah Sze have inspired my visual style and creative approach to this work. After reading the book Stormfuglar, the idea of restortation after a natural disaster came to mind ,and I developed a positive attitude towards the climate crisis. I believe that the destructiveness is only a temporary state and by re-connecting lines ,I can make what was fragmented whole again.
