My artwork explores climate refugees who are forced to leave their homes due to climate change. I used jellyfish as a symbolic element. Its adaptability and flexibility represent that environmental refugees will embrace new cultures. The jellyfish’s tentacles symbolise family-roots, which means refugees can rebuild their family roots in new countries. The jellyfish also symbolises a flying elf, helping them find hope. I chose gouache as my medium for its rich colour and unique texture, which enhances the feeling of hope. My inspiration came from UNHCR articles, which enriched my understanding of and sympathy for the struggles of climate refugees. I hope to arouse the public awareness regarding climate refugees and help them get more supports from the society.
