My work, Beneath the Glamour, is a visual commentary on the fleeting glamour of fashion and its lasting impact on the environment. Using mixed media, I depict a seabird dressed in human clothing, collaged from magazines, symbolising the superficial pursuit of beauty. The interior of the work is made from darker fabrics to create a sense of destruction and decay, representing the environmental cost of the industry’s glossy exterior. This work is my satire on the selfish behaviour of humans. By contrasting materials and colours, I enrich the texture and connotation of the work. I hope this will make the viewer think about the hidden costs of our consumption habits and the urgent need for sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
