Concerned about the issue of glacial retreat in the Alps and driven by sensitive perception of personal emotion, I created the watercolours series The Melting Alps to explore the fragile beauty of nature. Inspired by artworks of Néle Azevedo and Hung Liu, the drip marks are meant to be metaphors for the concept of “melting”, for glaciers' tears, for an inevitable descent of a once-mighty ecological landscape. The dominance of indigo hue mimics the true appearance of the ancient glacier, yet it also evokes a deep sense of sorrow and melancholy for the loss of all mankind. Each brushstroke records my emotional journey by metaphor and colour. Distress over the growing tragedy guided my work, urging me to give the disappearing landscape a voice.
