Exploring the impact of Climate Change on My Hometown Lychees Through Poetry #ClimateCrisis2024 #Group10_Richard Thomas

I'm a graphic designer and a director, a person who likes telling stories and uses poetic ways to convey ideas. I used to enjoy using video or graphic design as my medium to convey my work.  In my project, I explored the profound impact of climate change on my hometown of Guangdong, focusing on the symbolic fruit, the lychee. Inspired by Chinese poetry and the innovative work of artist Xu Bing, I created a conceptual piece that intertwines poetry with visual art. I inscribed an original poem on decayed and dried lychee skins, reflecting on a future where this once-celebrated fruit may lose its sweetness due to environmental shifts. By presenting the poem on lychee skins, I aim to provoke thought about the fragility of our natural world and how climate change not only alters our environment but also our heritage and identity. I want to use the bad description of lychee in this poem to compare with the praise in the poem thousands of years ago, and the praise once may be meaningless in the future.
